2009-2010 Season

Little Stars Recreation Program (Kindergarten thru 3rd grade - beginner level):  

Ellen Lewis - Ellen is originally from Chicago, IL. She moved to Madison in 1997. She attended Sherman and O'Keeffe Middle Schools, then later graduated from Madison East High School, where she played varsity basketball. She attended UW-Whitewater for 2 yrs and also Madison Area Technical College. She likes to read, watch and play sports, especially basketball. She is looking forward to making the Madison Stars Basketball Club a success in any way she can. Being a part of this organization is a great way for her to reach out to the youth and make a difference. Basketball has been a huge part of her life and success, so she would like to show others how it can make difference in their lives as well. 

Torben Harrison - Torben is a native of Madison. He got involved coaching girls basketball 14 years ago but stopped when he and Lynelle had their first daughter, Astrid. He started coaching again when Astrid was in kindergarten (5 years ago). He enjoys teaching the fundamental skills and seeing the girls improve over the years. He is now excited to coach their youngest daughter Ebba and their team in the upcoming fall season.

2nd-3rd Grade Team:

Bridget Thomas - Bridget started playing basketball when she was 10 years old.  She attended Madison East High School.  She coached the Freshman girls team at East the following fall season after graduation and coached for 8 seasons.  Recently, she has been coaching her son's basketball team at Holy Cross Lutheran School for the last three years.  Her only daughter (out of six kids) Vanessa plays on our 2nd/3rd grade tournament team.

Derek Jennings - Derek has two daughters (Ahnili and Alayah) playing for the Madison Stars and has been living in Madison for 6 years, moving here from Oklahoma.  He has enjoyed playing and watching sports since he was young, which included playing college football.  He also coaches 2nd grade soccer, has taught middle and high school age youth, and is currently completing his PhD in Education.  His research is focused around health and well being in local community settings.  "I look forward to challenge and facilitate personal growth and confidence through basketball." 

4th Grade Team:

Lynelle Harrison - Lynelle grew up in Green Bay, WI and moved to Madison to go to college. She played basketball from elementary thru high school. She has fourteen years of experience running a youth basketball program.  She founded the Madison Stars in May 2008, mainly to focus on girls basketball. She has two daughters, Astrid (10 y.o.) and Ebba (6 y.o.), who both will play basketball for the Stars. She has a passion for basketball and teaching young girls to be active and fit. She is looking forward to making the Stars Club successful in every way.

5th Grade:

Marcus Browning - Marcus is originally from Gary, IN.  He and his family have lived in Madison for the past eight years.  He grew up playing baseball but adopted basketball as a second sport once his children got involved playing basketball.  He was very interested in helping with the Madison Stars from the beginning but didn't know where.  He never thought he would end up coaching.  According to Marcus, "I want this program to be an enjoyment for everyone involved.  I enjoy interacting with my children and having family fun.  I believe that the Madison Stars program has a family atmosphere to it and I will promise in doing my part in making this experience enjoyable for all of our children.  By the end of the year we should have all had fun and learned a thing or two in the process."  Marcus has four daughters playing for the Madison Stars: Aniah, Precious, Sausha and Destiny.

Donald Cisneros - Donald was born in Denver, CO. He played varsity basketball for Monona Grove High School, where he met the challenge of going to State. He attended UW-Whitewater after high school, where he also played basketball and graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Coaching. He coached at Toki Middle School in the past. He recently started working for MSCR. Donald is excited about being part of the Madison Stars Basketball Club and hopes to make it a delight for all the participants and families involved.

Jason Hairston - Jason was born in Memphis, TN, but grew up in Madison. He graduated from LaFollette High School, where he played football and basketball. He also attended UW Whitewater. He has been working for MSCR the last 8 years and will be working with their day camps this summer. He truly enjoys working with kids and has been having fun coaching girls basketball. He coached the Toki Middle School girls team last year. He is excited to coach for the Stars and seeing his team improve their skills and have fun. 

Kevin Torrence- Kevin is a native of Detroit, MI. He and his wife, Terri, moved to Sun Prairie in 1998.  Kevin has prior coaching experience in both basketball and baseball.  He coached boys basketball in the YMCA league and summer baseball in a neighborhood league in his home town of Detroit.  Since moving to Wisconsin, Kevin has become a Big Brother and volunteers as a tutor/instructor at the East Madison Community Center.  Kevin enjoys working with youth and has the patience and commitment to help them succeed.  Fifth graders come ready! 

Carol Goedken - Carol is the mother of Danielle, who will be playing on the 5th grade Stars team.  Carol started playing basketball in 6th grade in New Jersey and has fond memories of playing basketball every night with the boy across the street.  In high school, she played basketball her freshman year, but faced the trauma of being cut her sophomore year.  This didn't stop her though - she played on the Gettysburg College team for one year, and has played for the last 10 years in the women's MSCR rec league in Madison.  She is an avid runner and Girl Scout Leader, and loves to have fun with the girls.
